The Market Place is a community participation model which uses traditional retail space to enable the development of local groups and projects, making it easier for people to get involved in shaping services and activities around them by providing a space for organisations to connect with local communities.
The Market Place increases people's access to help and information while encouraging them to expand their support networks beyond those of statutory services.
After testing the approach in Barrhead, we have now prototyped a second space in the Avenue Shopping
Centre, Newton Mearns. This allows us to understand how this approach can work in different settings and within diverse communities.
We are using the learning from this prototype to develop a service blueprint to work with organisations and community leaders who see an opportunity for a 'Market Place' in their own local area.

Talking Points are places in your community where you can come along and get information, support and advice about adult health, social care and community activities going on locally.
The Market Place is a community hub where local people access information and supports, and organisations connect with local communities. As a Talking Point's partner, we host regular drop-ins at which local people have opportunity to chat to various organisations like Care & Repair, RAMH or Voluntary Action and more. There's always a member of HSCP Initial Contact team if a person needs more advice on health or social supports.
East Renfrewshire Community Planning Partnership's Community Plan reflects the things that are important to local people. It also illustrates how community organisations themselves can contribute to a Fairer East Ren through the work that they do and how public services, the third sector and communities can work together to achieve sustainable collective impact.
Our goal is to tackle inequality across all communities in East Renfrewshire. We are continuously in search for new and creative ideas to tackle a wide range of complex health, social and economic issues. The Market Place is a place where local communities will be able to share their valuable opinions and have voice in the local decisions.
You can download the plan from East Renfrewshire Council website.
